Paolo Bruni, a leading figure in the Italian fresh produce business, has stepped down as president of EU agricultural cooperatives federation Cogeca.
Bruni, who has carried out the role since January 2010, said he had decided to step down from his position in order to focus on other commitments.
Those commitments include his presidency of Italian fresh produce marketing and research agency CSO and acting as lead spokesperson for the Italian government-backed promotional programme European Flavors.
'The Cogeca presidency has accepted Mr Bruni's decision and would like to thank him for his excellent work on the EU Common Agricultural Policy and in support of the entire European agri-food sector,' the organisation said in a statement.
'Mr Bruni has actively defended the modern role of agri-cooperatives, working towards a better functioning food chain. His commitment and communication skills benefited the whole sector. The Cogeca Presidency wishes him every success in the future.'
