Logistics group CMA CGM has announced the reinforcement of its intermodal offer with the introduction of a new railroad service, connecting the Port of Zeebrugge and Duisburg's tri-modal hub.
The fifth shuttle service, which kicked off this month, is the only one of its kind on the market, and now connects the D3T terminal at Duisburg with Zeebrugge's APMT terminal. The D3T terminal was already linked to the CHZ terminal at Zeebrugge four times each week.
Advantages of the connection include a unique and fast railroad service that coincide with calls of vessels deployed on the CMA CGM Asia-Europe services, multiple connection to and from Duisburg, and a reduction in the group's impact on the environment.
'CMA CGM is in a position to offer a very broad spectrum of connections on land between the three Benelux ports (Zeebrugge, Antwerp, Rotterdam) and the Rhine Valley via the Duisburg D3T hub – first targets are Strasburg and Ludwigshafen,' said Joop Mijland, intermodal Europe manager at CMA CGM. 'In the longer term other services will follow, maybe even as far as Moscow one day.'
The reinforcement of CMA CGM's rail freight service is further evidence of the its determination to offer its customers door-to-door services, the group noted, while also using a mode of transport that consumes less energy, is safe, and is less polluting.
