A new feeder service operated by CMA CGM was launched in November, connecting the Port of Hamburg in Germany with both the Lithuanian port city of Klaipeda and Kaliningrad in Russia.
The vessel operating on the service, Ice Bird, calls at container terminals in the Port of Hamburg on a weekly basis, with the first departure setting sail on 18 November 2009.
Chartered by the Bockstiegel shipping company, Ice Bird is 129.7m long and 20.6m wide, boasting a carrying capacity of 698 TEU and 120 reefer connections.
Seaborne container traffic with Russian Baltic ports amounted to 165,000 TEU for the first half of 2009, making the Russian Federation the third-most important trading partner for the Port of Hamburg.
