French shipping line CMA CGM has announced the return of its Citrus Express service for seasonal exports between the eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea.
The service calls at ports in Syria, Turkey and the Black Sea from November and January, and in Egypt, Syria, Turkey and the Black Sea from January to April.
Turkish lemons and tangerines, Egyptian oranges and Syrian apples will all be carried on refrigerated containers, the company stated. The use of advanced technology keeps the fruit at a fixed temperature and humidity to ensure its conservation.
“As usual, the group has proved its flexibility by adapting its service offer,' said Stephane Courquin, vice president of CMA CGM Asia Med Lines. 'With Citrus Express, we are responding to our clients’ demand as best we can, and we are supporting citrus export development in Turkey and Egypt. The objective is to propose a more reliable and ecological alternative to road transport, which also presents a risk of spoilage. With reefer containers, all degradation will be avoided.'
