Choudou, a new product grown exclusively by Landes, France-based Larrère, is being billed as an ideal vegetableforcooks in a hurry and for shoppers that don't appreciate the traditionalcabbage.
The product comes from an old brassica variety, resembling a cross between a cabbage and a lettuce, and is consumed either raw or cooked.
The vegetable, which comes packed in cling film to preserve its freshness, earned Saveur de l'Année status this year.
Choudou is currently being sold in France, but is available for export between October and April.
