USDA report indicates international sales rose significantly in July to September, ahead of the country’s October-November peak shipment period

Chile’s avocado exports for 2024/25 are estimated at 116,000 tonnes, up 29.8 per cent on the previous marketing year due to higher production volumes, according to a report from the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service. citing Chilean Avocado Committee data.

Overall production is expected to total 200,000 tonnes in 2024/25 as a result of favourable weather conditions, the report stated.

That figure represents a 33.3 per cent increase on the previous campaign, and follows a 1 per cent increase in planted area to 33,010ha.

During the first three months of the new campaign, international shipments apparently increased by 66.5 per cent year on year.

In 2023/24, exports rose 1.1 per cent in volume terms to 89,346 tonnes, and by 28.7 per cent in value to US$230mn.

Chile’s top export market for avocados that season were the Netherlands, followed by Spain and the UK.

Chilean avocado exports peak between October and November, but sales were “significantly higher” from July to September 2024, reflecting the increase in production and yields.

Chile’s avocado imports, meanwhile, are expected to decline by 20 per cent to 55,000 tonnes.
