Ronald Bown, president of the Chilean Fruit Exporters Association (Asoex), has been recognised for his contribution to the promotion of Chilean fruit in the US and his role in strengthening relationships between the two countries.
During an awards ceremony held in Wilmington, Bown picked up the 2013 Visionary Award from the Chilean Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia in celebration of these achievements, part of the 25th annual commemoration of bilateral relationships between Chile and greater Philadelphia region.
'Chile stands out as being a key fresh fruit supplier to the world, the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere and the worldwide leading exporter for table grapes, plums, blueberries and, within the top five countries, of avocados, cherries, apples and pears,' Bown commented.
Bown highlighted Asoex's achievements as a facilitator in the export process, from opening new markets, market promotion and communicating market regulations for exporter compliance, to harmonisation of market requirements, administration of phytosanitary agreements with other countries and training programmes forindustry workers.
“Chile is one of the largest and most successful fresh fruit exporters to the US market, based primarily on its geographical location, consistent high product quality, a solid and sustainable economy, and an understanding of the country’s development within a base of foreign commerce and institutional commitment,” he added.
In addition, Bown highlighted the importance of the Philadelphia region in Asoex's growth and success, and cited the contributions of two individuals, David Holzworth and Tom Tjerandsen, “who have supported us for so many years in the areas of legislation and product promotional programmes”.
