Chilean Citrus Committee releases its first forecast for the 2025 season
Chilean citrus exports are forecast to reach around 444,000 tonnes in 2025, an increase of 11 per cent on last year, according to the first estimates released by the Chilean Citrus Committee.
Its executive director, Monserrat Valenzuela, said mandarins, clementine, and lemon exports are expected to grow by 32 per cent, 25 per cent and 6 per cent respectively this year, while orange exports are forecast to fall by 18 per cent due to a lower volume of Fukumoto oranges.
“We had sufficient cold in winter and abundant rainfall, with a spring that allowed for very good fruit set, but there could be adjustments later in response to adverse weather conditions,” she stated.
The committee is planning promotional campaigns for clementines, mandarins, lemons, and oranges in the US, while a campaign in Japan will focus on lemons in.
“For the US, the campaigns will be aimed at the retail sector and consumers, with creative point-of-sale promotions and extensive use of social media,” Valenzuela noted.
Regarding Japan, she explained that the 2025 promotional campaign will include a workshop, which will be held in the Chilean pavilion at Expo Osaka, to which representatives of lemon importers and distributors in Japan, as well as specialised media outlets in the sector, will be invited. The workshop will discuss the main characteristics of Chilean lemons and their availability.
“The basis of this campaign is Chile’s export experience and the sustainability of the industry, along with the availability, quality, and health-promoting attributes of Chilean lemons,” Valenzuela said.
