The 2010/11 Chilean avocado export crop is forecast to contract by 39 per cent this season, according to data compiled by SimFRUIT.
The Chilean market intelligence system (developed by Fedefruta, Asoex and Decofrut) said the preliminary figure is due to the low spring temperatures in 2009, which affected the crop’s polinisation and flowering periods.
The severe frosts during recent weeks, caused by a polar cold front, have also impacted on volume.
