After Psa breakouts in two of its growing regions, representatives from Chile’s kiwifruit industry have visited New Zealand to learn about the affects of the disease.
A delegation from Chile’s department of agriculture visited New Zealand’s single desk kiwifruit marketer Zespri and Kiwifruit Vine Health to see how vine-killing disease is impacting production and the measures being taken to halt its growth.
Close to 3,000ha of kiwifruit planted in Chile have been affected by the disease.
The Chilean Kiwifruit Committee estimates the country’s crop is valued at more than US$200m in revenue, US$50m in labour and US$1bn in infrastructure and orchards.
