The Chilean citrus industry has access to two Israeli-bred mandarin varieties – Morria and Orri – thanks to a project by ARO, the research arm of the Israel Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with ANA Chile.
According to a report by Portal Frutícola, Morria and Orri were developed along with nine other new mandarin varieties, which combined offer availability from February to November.
Morria is a late variety and available from the beginning of August until mid-November. The fruit has few seeds with a thin skin and easy to peel, the report said.
Orri is also a late-producing variety, available from mid June to October. The fruit is more flat in shape, produces medium sizes and a yellow-orange colour.
The other varieties in the programme include: Tami, Kedem, Yanov, Dity, Nectar, Shani, Merav, Nora and Vered, according to the report.
