Chile’s phytosanitary agency (SAG) has revealed that the kiwifruit bacterial disease Psa has spread in the South American country.
SAG said it has detected a new incidence of Psa in a kiwifruit orchard in the Biobío region – the first in the area, according to a report by SimFRUIT.
The latest discovery brings to 57 the total number of kiwifruit orchards affected in Chile, according to SAG.
The Chilean Kiwifruit Committee confirmed that the latest discovery is in Chillan, Biobío, in the province of Nuble.
As of 9 January some 57 kiwifruit orchards have tested positive for the disease in Chile, covering 750.9ha of planted area.
