Chilean blueberry exports in the 2013/14 season up to week 50 reached 15,200 tonnes, a fall of 22 per cent on last season’s volume and 3 per cent less than according to figures from the Chilean Blueberry Committee.
With the harvesting of early varieties almost at and end in central and south central growing areas, the committee said the mi-season harvest was advancing in a moderate way. “This has allowed for a well-programmed harvest, which in turn favours a better quality berry which has characterised the season so far,” the committee said.
A rise in temperatures is expected to lead to an increase in export volumes and reduce the gap between this season and 2012/13 resulting from production losses caused by the September freeze.
