Robert Fabre, president of French banana supplier Compagnie Fruitière, this week met Cameroon's head of state, Paul Biya, to talk about further investment in the country, according to local newspaper Investir Au Cameroun.
'With competition for bananas increasing on the European market, particularly from our Latin American rivals, we must strive to develop the production capacity in Cameroon in order to maintain and develop employment,' said Fabre.
He added that the company needed to reduce production costs in Cameroon in order to meet the needs of European consumers looking for cheaper products during the current crisis.
