In Brazil, Grupo Pao de Acucar (CBD) has announced that net sales surged by 44.6 per cent during the final quarter of 2009, hitting a total of BR7.4bn (US$4.2bn).
The result was boosted by the takeover of Ponto Frio, although same-store sales also rose 10.6 per cent on the same quarter of 2008, Reuters reported.
Brazil's largest retailer benefited from a rebound in the country's economy that boosted demand for food and other supermarket products.
CBD's full-year net sales climbed 28.8 per cent to BR23.2bn (US$13.1bn).
