Spanish tomato giant Casi took a step closer to becoming a year-round supplier with the opening of a new distribution platform in the Netherlands to handle the production of local growers.
The 4,500m2 facility in the southern Dutch town of Poeldijk will play a crucial role in helping the cooperative fulfil its goal of supplying its customer for 12 months of the year.
Casi said a number of Dutch producers had already approached the company and expressed an interest in marketing their produce through its new platform.
Casi is Spain’s biggest tomato cooperative, with 1,800 members who between them produce over some 2,000ha. Last year the company marketed around 240,000 tonnes of tomatoes.
