Retailer Carrefour is set to rebrand its 16 Carrefour Express supermarkets in the UAE to its Carrefour Market format, analyst Planet Retail has revealed.
The conversion will see the emphasis passing from basic grocery items to fresh produce of the highest quality, according to Franck Rouquet, Carrefour’s supermarket regional manager for the UAE, Qatar, Oman and Kuwait.
Produce at Carrefour Market supermarkets will reportedly focus on fresh, high quality food products, with daily deliveries made to the supermarket shelves.
The format will also allow for a more local approach, with product ranges introduced on a store by store basis to fit the needs of the local community.
'Our customer demographic is constantly changing and evolving along with their requirements from a local supermarket,' said Roquet. 'The Carrefour Market model is already well-established internationally, and we saw an opportunity to introduce it to the GCC, which is a region with huge growth potential for the company.'
