India Carrefour

French retail giant Carrefour, which set up shop in India for the first time last year, has announced plans to launch a website for its Indian cash-and-carry customers, reports Techcircle.

According to the report, Carrefour is working on an online business-to-business sales site for its clients in India, primarily retailers, hotels, caterers and kirana shop owners.

Individual consumers will not be able to use the site when it goes online, unless the Indian government relaxes its laws on foreign investment in retail.

Carrefour set up a Carrefour Wholesale Cash & Carry store in New Delhi last December.

Carrefour currently offers online personal shopping in France, Spain, Belgium and Turkey.

Indian retailer Aditya Birla Retail is also reportedly working on an online shopping site. A startup called Aaramshop.com has also launched a hybrid grocery shopping model connecting kirana store owners with consumers, Techcircle said.
