Retail giant Carrefour is to open ten new stores in the UAE in 2017, according to an announcement from Majid Al Futtaim, which holds the rights to the Carrefour franchise in 38 countries across the Middle East, Africa and Central Asia.
By 2018, the company aims to reach 140 hypermarkets and 210 supermarkets in the markets in which Majid Al Futtaim operates, Gulf News reported.
“In the last two decades we have witnessed a number of retail trends emerge, including increasing demand for smaller supermarket-style stores in recent years,” said Miguel Povedano, executive regional director at Carrefour UAE.
“We will continue to grow the hypermarket brand in the UAE with the addition of two more hypermarkets, and address the growing trend for smaller convenient stores through the introduction of eight new supermarkets,” he added. “We also look forward to extending our home delivery service, which we are currently testing in selected areas in Dubai.”
