French retailer Carrefour has reached an agreement with Groupe Mestdagh in Belgium to convert the 69 supermarkets belonging to the latter from the Champion fascia to the Carrefour Market format.
The transformation is due to take place between now and 2013, Carrefour confirmed on Friday evening.
It will bring the number of Carrefour Market stores to 435, increasing Carrefour Belgium's market share by 2 per cent and its turnover by around €500m.
Carrefour further announced that it would invest €300m in the modernisation of the stores.
