Carrefour sign

Each day, French retailer Carrefour is offering five varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables for sale at 0 per cent margin.

The company said that the move was a way of supporting French farmers and also encouraging consumers to eat more fruit and vegetables.

'It is good for `consumers` and it is the best way to help the farmers,' it stated.

The offer has been available in Carrefour and Carrefour Market stores since last week and will be until 31 August.

This week's list features a selection of homegrown produce, including apples, strawberries, carrots, beetroot and potatoes.
