French retailer Carrefour has announced that it will be abandoning its 'Origine & Qualité' line of products following pressure from the country's national institute for origin and quality (INAO).
The INAO argued that the new line could be confused with products bearing Protected Geographical Indication and other such quality and origin labels.
'In order to avoid any confusion, Carrefour has decided not to develop 'Origine et Qualité Carrefour' and will instead pursue the use of its 'Filière Qualité Carrefour' mark,' the two groups communicated in a joint press release.
In turn, the INAO stated that it would halt any legal action against Carrefour, which it accused of identity theft at the beginning of May.
Earlier this year, Carrefour described the new line as 'the core of its fresh produce offering', covering 87 products, 290 product lines and 110,000 tonnes of fresh produce per year.
