Carrefour CEO Lars Olofsson has moved to appoint Vincente Trius as executive director for Europe and a member of the group's executive board, in charge of Carrefour's operations in Belgium, Spain, Italy, Poland, Greece, Cyprus and Romania.
According to a group statement, Mr Trius will take up his new role at the France-based retailer on 3 May 2010.
Mr Trius joins the group from US retail giant Wal-Mart, where he has spent most of his professional career, including a recent stint as executive vice-president and CEO for Latin America.
Joining Wal-mart in 1996, Mr Trius held a number of different roles, including vice-president for international operations division, president and CEO for Brazil and executive vice-president and CEO for Asia.
'Vincente Trius will bring to Carrefour his vast knowledge of retail and of clients in emerging and mature markets,' the Carrefour statement read. 'His management skills and strategic vision of retail should allow Carrefour to pursue its expansion in its key European market.'
