Camposol is targeting new export opportunities as its avocado production continues to grow. While the US and Europe will continue to be its most important markets in 2015, the company said it is looking at other destinations in Latin America and Asia, where Peruvian avocados are poised to gain access to the Japanese and Chinese markets.
With exports totalling 38,000 tonnes in 2014, the company claims to be the biggest exporter of Hass avocados in the world. For the coming year production in mature groves is expected to fall due to the alternate bearing nature of avocados. However, this will be offset by more than 1,500ha of new plantings and overall output is expected to remain broadly similar to 2014 levels.
Peru has risen up the global rankings in recent years and now has around 22,000ha dedicated to avocado production, of which Camposol accounts for 11 per cent.
“Peru will continue with the promotion activities via ProHass, encouraging the sales of avocados on the major traditional markets as well as other markets that are considered of great potential, such as Germany,” the company said in a press release.
