Camposol is to open a sales office in Algeciras, Spain to develop the company’s avocado sales in the Mediterranean region. The office, which will open later this month in time for the first arrivals of new season avocados from Peru, will handle customs clearing and quality control. It represents the latest step in the expansion of Camposol’s commercial structures in Europe.
While the company’s Dutch division, Maasdijk-based Camposol Fresh will continue to handle its customers in the north-western European markets, the Spanish office will take care of the distribution of produce – mainly avocados – in the Mediterranean region.
“The aim is to develop avocado cales in Morocco and on the Spanish market, taking advantage of the logistics infrastructure of the port of Algeciras,” said Sergio Torres, managing director of the new venture, Camposol Fresh. “The Moroccan market offers good sales perspectives, especially during Ramadan, which is a period of high consumption of avocados.”
Camposol is the leading agro industrial company in Peru, the largest exporter of asparagus and soon-to-be the first producer of avocado in the world. It is involved in the harvest, processing and marketing of high quality agricultural products such as asparagus, avocados, grapes, mangoes, peppers, artichokes, mandarins and blueberries; which are exported to key markets in Europe, the United States of America and Asia.
