Camposol is set for a significant increase in fresh avocado exports in 2014, with more product being shipped via direct programmes to customers in the Netherlands, Germany, Scandinavia and other European markets.
Last year saw a doubling of the company’s avocado export volume to more than 27,000 tonnes and it is set to see similar gains in 2014 as more of its 2,600ha of plantings reach full maturity. The company is ideally placed to take advantage of rising global demand as Peru’s main production season runs from April to September when demand in Northern Hemisphere markets is at its peak.
Almost 90 per cent of the avocados marketed by Camposol are fresh produce, while 10 per cent goes towards processing.
Alongside the rapid increase of its domestic avocado production has come Camposol’s decision to expand its sourcing programme into new regions in order to give customers greater security of supply.
In pomegranates, meanwhile, one of the latest additions to the company’s product range, output will remain similar to 2013 levels, Camposol said. The bulk of production is sold fresh, principally to the Netherlands and Russia.
