Camposol was Peru’s leading avocado exporter in 2018, closing the season with a shipment volume of 44,000 tonnes.
CEO Jorge Ramírez said: 'Our goal is to become a year-round supplier. We are focused on expanding our avocado production window in the Peruvian counterseason, and therefore we have already started a planting project in Colombia'.
The new plantations will reach their full productive potential as of 2023 and will add another 40,000 tonnes to Camposol's annual volume, allowing a continuous supply during all weeks of the year.
Camposol follows the same line for other products, with an emphasis on blueberries and mandarins. Another geographical area that is being developed is Uruguay, where the company acquired this year approximately 1,000ha for the cultivation of citrus.
Since 2014, the area under Hass avocado cultivation in Peru has increased by 3,000ha per year, reaching approximately 25,000ha by the end of 2017.
Camposol said it hoped that the per capita consumption would continue to increase, not only in Europe but also in the US and Asia.
The company sees a lot of potential in Japan and especially in China, where its avocados are already present in several supermarket chains, including Olé.
The avocados are also offered online through platforms such as Alibaba, which has named Camposol its strategic partner in avocados and blueberries.
'Also, with a view to the increasing diversification of global markets, our goal of year-round product availability is of great importance to Camposol,' said Ramírez.
