Bruce Cameron has decided to stand for Zespri's board of directors at the New Zealand kiwifruit marketer's forthcoming AGM, according to a report by Voxy.co.nz.

Mr Cameron's association with the kiwifruit industry dates back to the late 1970s, the website stated, when he developed orchards in Otamarakau, in the Bay of Plenty, and he reportedly remains extremely supportive of Zespri's position as a single desk seller.

'With this position comes huge responsibility for Zespri,' he said. 'It must continue to lead from the front, encourage innovation and drive financial returns for all those associated with the industry.'

Regarding the upcoming election, Mr Cameron, who holds directorships on numerous boards, stated his belief that directors should have 'industry knowledge, financial acumen, corporate governance and international marketing experience, together with an overriding ability to get things done'.
