Giumarra’s Southern Hemisphere sales division has announced the start of its third season of Australian Calypso Mangoes, with the first shipments arriving in the US via airfreight on 17 December.
Giumarra markets Calypso Mangoes, the B74 variety, in partnership with Perfection Fresh Australia, with the fruit grown in Far North Queensland, Australia.
“We are excited to bring the concept of Australia’s ‘juicy little secret’ to market with this distinct, flavourful mango,” says Craig Uchizono, vice-president Southern Hemisphere for the Giumarra Companies. “The Calypso Mango has fibre-free flesh and a smaller seed, so there is more fruit for consumers to enjoy in every mango.”
According to Giumarra, the mango has a pleasing pink to red blush with a warm yellow background when ripe. Its flavour is sweet and creamy, with a firm, smooth texture ideal for a variety of uses.
“Once consumers taste the Calypso Mango, we believe it will become something they ask for by name, especially given its exciting Australian background, limited availability, and great flavour,” says Kellee Harris, western region business manager for Giumarra.
The fruit is currently being harvested and will be available though the end of January 2017.
