The Port of Los Angeles processed 826,638 TEUs in August 2018, a 2.5 per cent dip compared to August 2017, which was the port’s busiest August to date.
It marked the second-strongest August in the port’s history and the sixth-busiest month ever at the Port of Los Angeles.
“In addition to being one of our top ten busiest months, August marked the inauguration of APL’s Eagle Express here in Los Angeles,” said Port of Los Angeles executive director Gene Seroka. “This weekly China to LA service provides an unmatched level of speed to market and is yet another example of our focus on customer service and response to market demand.”
August 2018 imports decreased 2.8 per cent to 420,573 TEUs compared to the previous year, while exports increased 2 per cent to 162,466 TEUs, and empty containers fell 4.9 per cent to 243,600 TEUs.
Eight months into 2018, overall volumes have decreased 2.6 per cent to 6m TEUs compared to 2017 when the port set an all-time cargo record.
