UK supermarket chain Budgens is to stock a new hybrid melon variety that offers a distinctive, lime-like taste.
The green-striped so-called Limelon, or lime melon, is grown in Spain and will be available in the retailer's British stores for a three-week period.
Priced at £1.49 (€1.85) each, the new variety has apparently been sourced in order to boost sales of other melons.
'The flavour is far more intense than a regular melon, with a citrus tang,' commented retailer Edward Vann, speaking to the Daily Mail newspaper.
