Promoting the need for public authorities to focus on low-income populations and facilitate their access to fruit and vegetables will be the main aim of the 6th EGEA conference, which takes place in Belgium on 5-7 May 2010.
The event, which is supported by the European Commission and the French Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, takes place under the theme 'Social and health Benefits of Balanced Diet – The Role of Fruit and Vegetables' at the Albert Borschette Centre in Brussels.
There will be a particular focus on the diet of children at the conference, looking at interventions and educational campaigns that have been implemented across Europe and the US to increase awareness and fresh produce consumption.
Previous editions of EGEA have tackled a number of issues, including the urgency of facilitating children's access to fruit and vegetables, which helped push the implementation of the European School Fruit Scheme.
