Port of Bremerhaven

Germany-based BLG Coldstore Logistics has increased the total storage capacity at its Bremerhaven location, making it the largest commercial coldstore in the region.

According to a report on Intrafish.com, the group invested €2m in boosting the size of the facility to cater for 33,000 frozen and chilled pallets, following increased demand from Asia, the US, South America, New Zealand, Russia and Africa.

The move is the third expansion at the site, and the first since 2006, with capacity more than doubling since the coldstore's launch in 1985.

The new building offers space for 4,500 pallets, and is equipped with a moveable shelf rack system and an automatic conveying system for stockpiling and stock removal.

Meanwhile, BLG revealed that the border inspection post, located inside the coldstore buildings, will also be renewed by the group, with the launch slated for spring 2010.
