Italian oranges and other citrus are to be granted access to Brazil under new proposals published in the Latin American country's Diario Oficial da Uniao.
'Following a long process lasting almost two years and involving our respective diplomatic offices, Brazil has recognised the necessary phytosanitary characteristics in Italian citrus to open the way for our exports,' confirmed Italian agriculture minister Saverio Romano.
'This represents a major breakthrough for Italian agriculture, because it creates important new prospects in a market that is growing fast and has huge potential.'
He added: 'It also underlines the quality and security of our products, which are able to conquer new markets thanks in particular to their extraordinary organoleptic qualities.'
