Port of Seattle

New services from shipping groups CMA CGM and Maersk Line helped to drive up year-on-year imports at the Port of Seattle in the US through June.

Containerised imports soared by 93.3 per cent compared with June 2009, with the 88,763 TEUs recorded through the month representing the highest import tally so far this year.

The recently introduced Maersk/CMA CGM service has accounted for over half of the increased volume, seaport and real estate media officer Peter McGraw told The Journal of Commerce, with the remaining growth down to seasonal factors.

According to Mr McGraw, Seattle's import increase without the new service being taken into account would have stood at 26 per cent.
