The move provides greenhouse growers with the tools to increase productivity whilst optimising cost-of-ownership, the groups say
Helle-Tech Oy and Bloemteknik (Bloem) have announced a collaborative venture to introduce modular adjustable LED fixtures designed specifically for high wire and leafy green growers.
According to a joint statement, the Balance Platform enables growers to increase photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) on the vertical face of vine growing crops by up to 36 per cent, without increasing energy consumption.
”Growers and academics agree that as a rule of thumb, a 1 per cent increment in PPFD results in a 1 per cent increase in yield,” commented James Fleet, co-founder of Bloem.
“Today’s announcement provides greenhouse growers with the tools to increase productivity whilst optimising cost-of-ownership.”
Benefits of the patent-pending adjustable light-engines include the increase in PPFD by up to 36 per cent on the vertical face of vine growing plants, and improved leafy green uniformity of up to 32 per cent versus standard manufacturer optics, the companies noted.
The Balance Platform also enables fewer fixtures to be used versus a standard manufacturer, lowering capital expenditure, they said.
“By combining Helle-Tech’s expertise and experience together with Bloem’s innovative engineering, the partnership aims to redefine industry standards,” added Timo Helle, managing director of Helle-Tech.
“This strategic alliance underscores a commitment to sustainability and technological advancement, offering growers a competitive edge in the evolving landscape of controlled environment agriculture.”
