Bananas

Banana importer Banagrumes has continued its development at Rungis International Wholesale Market in Paris, with the modernisation of its banana ripening facilities, according to Fld.

During the summer, the company created five new ripening rooms, which have been operational since September.

The importer also has plans to build a further two rooms, which it expects to be completed in August 2012.

According to Banagrumes president Alain Alarcon, these investments will boost the company's ripening capacity by 30 per cent to some 6,500 tonnes of bananas, of which 95 per cent come from the French Antilles.

Alarcon stated his pride to represent bananas from this region, due to the growers' commitment to traceability and sustainability, which serve to make their bananas 'without doubt the healthiest in the world'.
