Bakkavör has revealed the opening of its first factory in Canada, a 70,000ft2 factory in Ontario that has started to supply one of Canada's largest grocery retailers with a range of feshly prepared foods.
The international convenience producer employs 20 workers at the site, located in Cobourg, with this number expected to increase over the next 12 months.
Products now on offer from Bakkavör include a premium range of fresh Italian, Asian and traditional meals, vegetable side dishes, soups and sauces, side salads and salad entrees, the group revealed.
In addition, the factory in Cobourg is supported by Bakkavör's two chef facilities, located in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
'Our entry into the Canadian retail market reflects Bakkavör's long term strategy to be a leading supplier of fresh prepared foods,' said Agust Gudmundsson, CEO at Bakkavör Group. 'We are focused on maintaining a selective approach to capital investment where we can support retail customers as they seek to expand and grow their business.
'This entry is a prime example of where we have been able to do this, using the strong market and operational expertise we have developed in our existing markets,' he added.
