Fruit and vegetable prices at Bahrain’s Manama Central Market have soared by 25-30 per cent, according to Trade Arabia, as a result of problems on the King Fahad Causeway that connects the kingdom to Saudi Arabia.
Nearly 50 trucks carrying fresh produce were reportedly stuck on the causeway awaiting clearance.
The market relies on daily shipments of produce, since storage costs are so high.
However, trading at the market had been paralysed, companies said, with no trucks able to carry fruit and vegetables into the kingdom since the end of last week.
