BA World Cargo

British Airways World Cargo has announced that it has renewed its contract with Norbert Dentressangle for a further five years, the group that operates BA's 69,000ft2 Perishables Handling Centre at Heathrow Airport in London, UK.

Norbert Dentressangle is responsible for all activities within the centre including on-site customs clearance, container unloading, sorting of consignments, storage and stock control, amongst other duties.

Consignments of fresh produce arriving from BA World Cargo's three London gateways at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted are transferred to the centre in refrigerated vehicles.

The fully chilled facility is the largest chilled airfreight distribution centre in the UK and is designed to allow growers and producers around the world to reach their markets faster and keep their products fresher. All consignments are handled in a controlled environment until ready for despatch direct to supermarket distribution centres and markets.

In 2010, the centre is expected to handle around 120,000 tonnes of fresh produce including fruits, vegetables, flowers, prepared foods, seafood, meat, fish and dairy products.
