Mexico is working with officials in the Indian state of Karnataka to overcome logistical issues inhibiting avocado exports.
Currently it takes between 44-50 days to ship from Mexico to the Nhava Sheva container terminal in Maharashtra. Mexican investment and trade minister Aldo Ruiz told the Hindu newspaper he was in discussion with the Karnataka state government about the prospects of shipping to the port in Mangalore.
“We’re working on the logistics aspects with the government of Karnataka and hope to use the state’s knowledge or solution to reduce the transit time of shipments,” he told the newspaper.
“We’re looking for better connectivity to India through Karnataka,” he said.
He told the newspaper major retailers in India had shown interest in sourcing fruit from Mexico, although he couldn’t quantify the demand.
