French retailer Auchan’s Spanish fruit and vegetable export subsidiary, Zenalco, experienced a successful 2010, with volumes reaching 170,000 tonnes, 8 per cent more than the year before.
In total, Zenalco’s exports for the year were worth €174m, with citrus, at 80,000, the leading product, followed by melons and watermelons, at 16,000 tonnes and tomatoes with 12,000 tonnes.
The company, which draws its volumes from across Spain - although the regions of Valencia and Andalusia accounted for the majority - exported the products to France, Poland, Italy, Portugal, Hungary and Taiwan, among other destinations.
Zenalco forms part of Auchan’s Spanish operations alongside the Alcampo hypermarket and Simply supermarket chains.
