French group Auchan is to base any further European expansion on its Russian hard discount concept, according to reports in the Eastern European country.
Russian media reports quoting the official site of the Myule family, which owns Auchan, said that the Raduga chain, created specifically for the Russian market, could be copied elsewhere in Europe as it optimises operating costs.
FoodBizDaily said that the Raduga concept's main features include an absence of cashiers in store, with items paid for using an automatic device. The stores are subsequently better equipped to keep costs at a minimum.
The first Raduga-style store, which will operate under the 'Priber' banner in Europe, is slated for launch in easternFrancein March 2010.
