Auchan

French retailer Auchan is investing in a real-time tracking solution provided by Orange Business Services in order to monitor produce at its hypermarkets and supermarkets.

Using plastic crates with RFID chips, the retailer will be able to track produce throughout the entire distribution chain, according to MarketWatch.

The platform application features 24-hour online access, enabling both the Auchan produce distribution chain manager and the plastic crate renter to view the entire container route in real time and anticipate any losses.

The solution will reportedly limit crate loss, reduce waste, increase consistency of produce presentation, and lower the risk of accidents to warehouse employees related to the handling of wooden crates.

François Laveissière, Auchan's director of IT innovation, commented: 'Thanks to this trackability solution, we now have the possibility of ensuring real-time supervision of the entire produce distribution chain. Our improved logistics chain allows us to simultaneously achieve savings and protect the environment, which is a strong focus in the group's policy.'
