Retail group Auchan has revealed that snow could have a major impact on its December results in France, with the month accounting for some 15 per cent of its annual revenues.
In an interview with Reuters, Auchan France chairman Arnauld Mulliez said that sales could be hit by store closures forced by inclement weather.
'The impact on days like these is colossal... I have no crystal ball, but the biggest week is next week,' he told the news agency. 'In food, it will be difficult to make up for the disruption and I heard on the radio that more snow is expected.'
Auchan's flagship store, located in Velizy, Paris, was recently forced to close for more than a day, as was the group's hypermarket in Cherbourg, Normandy.
