Guatemala Asunción Export sugar snap peas

Guatemalan vegetable supplier Asunción Export is looking to establish a position on the US East and West Coasts this year after conducting trials in 2012.

“We’re planning to send snow peas, sugar snap peas and French beans to the market,” the firm’s Alejandro Farfán revealed to Americafruit in an exclusive report.

“The objective is to expand our operations in the US.”

Asunción Export currently exports 100 per cent of its peas to Europe, especially the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Belgium and the UK.

But under the plans to launch in the US that strategy is about to change.

“Our volume has doubled in the last three years and this is allowing us to take advantage of great economies of scale and diversify into new geographical opportunities,” Farfán said.

To support the organic growth, Asunción Export has invested in new selection, packing and coldstorage facilities at its site in Sacatepéquez, Guatemala.
