Asda

Wal-Mart-owned Asda has reported strong sales for the festive period, with 23 December said to have been the largest trading day in the company’s history.

In the seven days up to Christmas, 12 Asda stores reported sales of almost €4.5m (£4m), compared with eight outlets last year.

Asda’s grocery home shopping business also had its biggest Christmas, in the face of tough weather conditions, with more than 100,000 orders delivered before Christmas Eve.

The retailer said the cold weather also failed to put customers off enjoying a traditional family Christmas. Sales of Extra Special and premium lines increased by 98 per cent over Christmas week.
