Argentina has been registered as an official supplier of animal and plant products for human consumption to Vietnam, paving the way for exports of value added items including fresh fruits and vegetables in the future.
The agreement will enable Argentina to resume shipments of poultry, beef and fish to the Asian countries, which have been suspended since 2011, and to start exporting a number of vegetable products including barley, maize and legumes. Further down the line, fruit shipments could get underway once the necessary risk analyses have been carried out.
According to Ministry of Agriculture, Argentina shipped US$1.2bn worth of agricultural products to Vietnam in 2013.
