APM Terminals has announced the appointment of Ben Vree to the position of chief executive officer of the Europe region, a move that came into effect on 13 June.
Geographically, the region includes responsibility for all of Europe as well as the Southern Mediterranean and Black Sea, icnluding facilities at Tangiers, Port Said and Poti.
Based in Rotterdam, Vree will oversee operations encompassing a combined container volume of 6.7m TEUs, representing 36 per cent of total company throughput, 12 operating container terminals in 13 countries and revenues of US$1.2bn (€957m).
'I am excited about this new opportunity to contribute in this challenging market toward the further development and growth of the APM Terminals Global Port, Terminal and Inland Service Network in the Europe Region, and to become part of the corporate management team,' Vree said. 'Our goal is to not only grow and optimise the existing network, but also further improve standards on safety and environmental care and expand our customer base.'
