APM Terminals has signed a 33-year US$992m concession contract with the government of Costa Rica to build and maintain the new Moin container terminal on the country's Caribbean coast.
The ports operator, which is present in 63 countries, believes the facility will "set new standards for customers, improve their logistics chain and reduce costs".
Henrik Pedersen, APM's vice-president of business development for the Americas, said: "The new port in Moin will attract additional international investment, create new jobs and business growth benefiting the country and region."
Francisco Jimenez, Costa Rica's minister of public works and transportation, confirmed: "The new Moin Container Terminal is one of several national transportation infrastructure modernization projects which are expected to produce major efficiency gains for the country’s international commerce."
